ถ้าฉันทำงานเสร็จก่อนหกโมง ฉันจะไปรับ What will you do if she refuses your proposal? คุณจะทำยังไงถ้าเธอปฏิเสธการขอแต่งงาน ** ในส่วนของประโยคที่มี if อาจจะใช้ present tense อื่นๆก็ได้ เช่น present continuous ตามแต่สถานการณ์ เช่น If you're trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be. 2. ประโยค If-clause แบบที่ 2 คือ ประโยคเงื่อนไขที่เป็นไปไม่ได้หรือเป็นไปได้ยากในปัจจุบัน พูดง่ายๆคือสิ่งที่เราสมมติหรือมโนขึ้นมาเอง เช่น ถ้าฉันเป็นเธอ หรือ ถ้าฉันเป็นนก หรือ ถ้าฉันมีเงินพันล้าน อะไรประมาณนี้ซึ่งไม่มีทางเป็นไปได้ หรือเป็นไปได้ยากมากๆ ก็เข้าข่ายแบบที่ 2 นี้เลยค่ะ ส่วน tense ที่จะใช้ใน If-clause แบบที่ 2 นี้ก็คือ past simple ค่ะ ที่ใช้ tense ที่เป็นอดีต เพราะเหตุการณ์นี้เราพูดในปัจจุบันแทนที่จะเป็น present simple แต่มันดันเป็นความจริงในปัจจุบันที่เป็นไปไม่ได้ก็เลยทำให้ความจริงผิดเพี้ยนไป จึงใช้ past simple แทน เพื่อแสดงให้เห็นว่ามันคือสิ่งที่เพี้ยนไปจากความเป็นจริงนั่นเอง!! โครงสร้างของ If-clause แบบที่ 2 คือ If + past simple, Subject + would + V1 If I had a private jet, I would go to Switzerland.

IF-CLAUSE — TYPE ONE A. If + Present Simple, + Present Simple ใช้กับความเป็นจริงที่เกิดขึ้นตามธรรมชาติ (natural laws) ทางด้านวิทยาศาสตร์ หรือการกระทำที่เป็นนิสัยของแต่ละบุคคล (habitual actions) เช่น If water is heated, it boils. If ice is heated, it melts. If a metal is heated, it expands. If it is fine, Jim usually walks to school. If you hurt dogs, they bite you.. If students don't study, they usually(sometimes, often, generally) fail. ข้อความเหล่านี้ จะเป็นข้อความทั่วๆ ไป (general statements) ซึ่งเป็นความจริงเสมอ และเมื่อเหตุการณ์แรกเกิดขึ้น เหตุการณ์ที่สองจะเกิดขึ้นเสมอ ประโยคเงื่อนไขดังกล่าวนี้ เราสามารถใช้ when/whenever แทน if ได้ ซึ่งมีความหมายเหมือนกันทั้ง 2 คำ เช่น Whenever/When / If people are tired, they generally go to bed. Plants grow quickly when/whenever/if you water them. I sing if I am happy. If a woman has a children, she must look after them. I cannot understand you if you speak Chinese. If you have a cold, it is wise to go to bed. If you throw a stone into water, it sinks.
